Last weekend, the LA Pride Parade was a colorful, festive, and joyous occasion, bringing together LGBTQ+ members and allies from every corner of the cities. And as one of the events' highlight, Janelle Monae, graced the stage with her electrifying performance alongside a unique, one-of-a-kind custom condenser microphone. As a queer-owned microphone company, Ohma World was thrilled to work with ACLU SoCal to bring this special Trans flag microphone to life.
The idea for the custom Trans flag microphone came about just three days before the LA Pride Parade, when ACLU SoCal reached out to Ohma World. They wanted a microphone that embodied the trans pride flag and would represent the organization's commitment to protecting and advocating for the rights of trans and non-binary folks. This was a daunting challenge, but our team at Ohma World was up for it.
We immediately got to work designing, testing, and assembling the microphone. The body of the microphone was painted in the light blue, pink, and white hues of the trans flag, while the pop filter screen was customized with a hot pink finish that is not yet available for purchase. The result was a stunning, one-of-a-kind microphone that made a bold statement of trans pride and activism.
As a queer icon and activist in her own right, Janelle Monae was a perfect choice to wield the custom Trans flag microphone. Her music and persona embody the spirit of the LGBTQ+ community, celebrating diversity and inclusivity, while also challenging societal norms and expectations.
The custom Trans flag microphone created by Ohma World for ACLU SoCal and seen on stage with Janelle Monae at the LA Pride Parade was more than just a piece of equipment or a fashion statement. To us, it is a symbol of hope, a call to action, and a tribute to the bravery and resilience of the trans and non-binary community. It also showed the potential of art and music to inspire change and make a positive impact in the world. We are honored to have been a part of this moment and to continue our mission of creating top-quality microphones that empower musicians and amplify their voices.
We are greatly thankful to Ashley Balderrama for granting us permission to publish their captivating photos.
